Eight Surefire Ways to Stand Out at a Trade Show

At the average trade show you will be competing with at least 300 other stands. You have only 3 seconds to get a potential customer's attention and 10 minutes to promote your business' product or service. Here are eight surefire ways to make those 3 seconds count and ensure you stand out.

There are more than 300 exhibitors at an average trade show.

You have about three seconds to engage a visitor walking past your booth and an average of 10 minutes to market your company’s product or service.

Here are eight tips to stand out in any trade show:

1. Keep it Simple.

In display design, less is more. You are creating a display for a road show, not arranging exhibits for a museum.

A simple message telling potential clients who you are what you do can be all you need to get the right people in.

2. Use Clear Branding.

The show display must clearly show your company’s name and – Always work on your brand reinforcement.

3. Give away gifts.

This works well as long the giveaways designed to engage with your target audience and not the people you don’t want on your stand.

Always offer giveaways in exchange of information you want to have from your potential customers.

4. Train the booth staff on the company’s services and products.

Well informed, knowledgeable and professional well presented staff members can make the difference.

5. Give away coupons and gift certificates at the trade show.

If people know they are getting a discount when purchasing your company product, there is a greater chance that they will buy from you rather than your competitor. If your product serves their needs they will be repeat customers.

6. Hold a raffle event to give away your products.

If you have a raffle, ensure that the giveaways are compatible with your business and appeals to the general public.

Have visitors drop their business cards into a gift bag or a bowl. This has the added benefit of gaining the contact information of all interested people. (Of course, make sure you follow the rules and guidelines of the exhibition.)

7. Bring fresh products every time you participate in a trade-show.

If that is not possible, update your old products and showcase them.

8. Be Accessible.

Keep the doors open. The display should be an open booth where people can comfortably enter without any hesitation.

Do not put a table between you and your potential customers.

Keep your display in the show booth free of clutter so that customers can focus on your company’s product. Any visitor should be able to understand what you are promoting immediately.
